Return to Work Coordinator Training (RTW) - NSW WorkCover Accredited
A two day program that ensures return to work coordinators feel empowered and confident in managing injuries and getting people back to work.
WorkCover NSW requires all participants to bring along 100 points of ID for accredited courses on the first day, failure to have sufficient ID will result in non admittance to the course as per our registration terms and conditions.
Duration: Two Days - 09:00am to 04:00pm
Session 1 - Overview of injury management concepts
- Identify key features of the workplace injury management and workers compensation scheme
- List the obligations of key stakeholders
- List the initial steps in injury management
- Explain the ways to reduce premiums
Session 2 - Components of an employers return to work program
- Step by step guide for negotiating a return to work program
- Reviewing a return to work program
- Gaining feedback from employees regarding the return to work program
- Confirming employee satisfaction on the completion of workplace rehabilitation
Session 3 - Role of the return to work coordinator
- the duties of a return to work coordinator
- the key duties to be addressed in the initial interview with the injured employee
- Identify key responsibilities in relation to the confidentiality of injury management information
- Identify key communication strategies for getting the message across to all stakeholders
Session 4 - Working with key players
- Distinguish between different types of doctors in the WorkCover scheme
- List the strategies for improving communication with doctors
- Identify when to use a rehabilitation provider
- Explain how to refer to a rehabilitation provider
- Communicate effectively with physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths
Session 5 - A return to work coordinators experience
- Practical explanations of day to day activities of a practicing return to work coordinator
- Opportunity to ask questions of a return to work coordinator
Session 6 - Role of the insurer
- Describe the different insurance arrangements under WorkCover
- List the insurer responsibilities for claims and injury management
- Explain the basic principles of premium calculation
Session 7 - Benefits for injured worker
- the steps involved in first notification of a workplace injury
- List the steps involved in making a worker’s compensation claim
- List the benefits to which an injured worker may be entitled
- Explain the basic principles of weekly benefits
Session 8 - Developing a return to work plan
- List the steps involves in identifying suitable duties
- Develop written return to work plans
- Describe WorkCover programs available to assist with the retraining and return to work of an injured worker (Work trial, section 53 sponsorship of retraining an or equipment and workplace Job Cover placement)
Session 9 - Dispute prevention and resolution
- Identify strategies to prevent and resolve injury management disputes
- Identify appropriate skills required in the prevention and resolution of disputes which may arise
- Explain the role of the claims assistance service in preventing and resolving disputes
- Explain the role of the workers compensation commission in resolving disputes

Session 11 - Assessment activity
